Being Brunel Museum, by Electrosonic

March 20, 2020

Electrosonic worked alongside Centre Screen in partnership with the SS Great Britain Trust to create a one of a kind audiovisual immersive experience that fuses technology with storytelling to explore the life and legacy of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, one of engineering's greatest minds.

The aim was to create an immersive experience that gave visitors an insight into the process of “engineering” in the nineteenth century. The experience had to communicate the scale and diversity of Brunel’s achievements. No mean feat for a ground-breaking engineer who built dockyards, the Great Western Railway, the first propeller-driven transatlantic steamship and many innovative bridges and tunnels.

The organizers also wanted to show how Brunel conducted business by inviting visitors to participate in a meeting — let them experience the practicalities of selling an innovative late change to the design of a ship from a paddle steamer to a screw propeller.

Electrosonic and Centre Screen partered on the project to create two unique AV experiences. The first is 'Brunel's Mind', a giant head that visitors move through surrounded by sound, multi-projector displays and special effects. The second is 'The Boardroom' that creates a digital extension of a real set.
