Auditorium Audiovisual Upgrade Maximizes Flexibility of a Multi-Purpose Space
International Lawyers, Eversheds, have recently upgraded the auditorium facility at their UK Headquarters in the City of London. Action Workspace provided interior design, with AV systems integration by Electrosonic. The auditorium includes a 4K capable Digital Media routing system with large LCDs.
The main space has seating for 124 people, with presentations possible either from a top table seated panel or from two lectern positions. A separate “breakout room” can be opened up to provide an additional 50 seats; the overall AV system is configured to allow the two spaces to be used either combined or independently.
The main challenge was to ensure that presentation content and the presenters could be clearly seen and heard regardless of the room configuration.
It was important that presenters had an easy method of displaying their own material on the system, and that they could view other content at their presenting position. Eversheds wanted to use technology to provide presenters and guests with a unique conferencing experience.
To maximise visual impact in all areas of the auditorium, a 3x3 videowall made up from nine LCDs was installed, providing a “brand backdrop”. For viewing detailed content, 98-inch LCDs are installed either side of the videowall. These are augmented by three 65-inch LCDs installed in the breakout area.
Ceiling lighting and LED color-changing light walls are integrated via a DMX interface to allow the room ambiance to be set using illumination levels, color washes and moving color patterns. Lighting color and intensity can be fully controlled and stored as pre-sets from the iPad control interface utilizing the Crestron control system.
To ensure speech intelligibility, a Polycom “Sound Structure” system is installed with 32 ceiling loudspeakers and both wired and wireless microphones. The system is programmed to deal with multiple room layouts.
A Kramer Collage system is installed to allow two-way wireless device connectivity for presenters. The system also accepts inputs from remote conference clients (e.g. MS Lync/Skype) augmented by PTZ cameras which can acquire images of the participants.
High resolution displays provide optimal viewing, enhancing communication and understanding, while ambient lighting adds a dynamic vibrancy to the room creating a memorable conference experience.
